As we wait out the coronavirus pandemic, we’re shifting the spotlight back onto spring athletes around the section. We will take a look around the softball diamond, highlighting and introducing one player each day with a questionnaire. 

Next up is Yonkers’ three-sport athlete Ileana Santiago, who will continue to play multiple sports at the next level for St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Position: Shortstop

College Plans: I will be attending St. Thomas Aquinas College, and I will be playing two sports, soccer and softball.

Pregame ritual: My pregame ritual is listening to music.

Sweet or salty?: Sweet (Twix).

Hype song: “Congratulations” by Post Malone, featuring Quavo, and “Ibiza” by Ozuna, featuring Romeo Santos, because it makes me happy and puts me in a great mood

Favorite place to play a road game: Nyack High School

Athlete you look up to: Alex Morgan

Best thing you’ve ever tasted: Chicken Française

Favorite sports teams: New York Yankees, New York Knicks, New York Giants

Currently binging: “On My Block”

Dinner with anyone in the world, past or present: Derek Jeter

Words to live by: Do more than just exist.

Staying ready: Playing catch with siblings and hitting with a net.

Degree of optimism there will be a season, on a scale from 1-10: It would be a 4, but I believe we will attend school again in the beginning of May and hope we can squeeze in as many games and practices as we can before the school year is over.
