More than 200 runners, including current students and their families and alumni from California, along with support from local businesses across Westchester and the Bronx, helped raise more than $ 15,000 in the Xavier E. Flores Memorial Run.
The final week-long, 5K community-wide virtual event sponsored by The Stepinac Lady Crusaders was held in honor of Mr. Flores, a dedicated Stepinac alumnus (class of 1988) who died of COVID-19 on April 27th is. All proceeds from the initiative will help support Stepinac's comprehensive COVID-19 efforts to protect the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, parents and the community.
"This was the most successful 5K our organization has sponsored," said Laurie Naughton, President of the Stepinac Lady Crusaders, adding, "We are delighted to donate the much-needed funds to the school in Xavier's memory."
Flores was actively involved in his alma mater, helped raise funds for school programs and was co-president of the Crusader Men’s Club. His son Xavier M. Flores graduated from Stepinac as a member of the 2020 class last summer.
A total of 211 runners took part. There were 45 family sponsors and 15 business sponsors including Benfield Electric Supply, Certus Capital, Domingos Deli and Pizza, Dominos Sugar, Gedney Auto Service, Leros Point to Point, Lombardos, Metro Team Sports, Prato Capital, Regal Interiors, Roosters Market, The Rye Roadhouse, Scully Construction, Sisters of Divine Compassion and The Vinyl King.
