Yonkers is looking for seasoned athletes who can be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame.
The Yonkers Sports Hall of Fame honors outstanding professionals and amateurs in the field of living or deceased sports who have gained importance in Yonkers or made significant contributions to sports.
"Over the years there have been many outstanding citizens in the world of sport," Mayor Mike Spano said in a statement. "The pride and honor they have brought themselves and others should live on in our community as symbols of achievement and examples of hard work for future generations."
Names can be submitted at www.YonkersNY.gov/SportsHallofFame with sufficient information such as photos, newspaper clippings, etc.
The nominees must meet the following entry requirements:
Local, state or national recognition and notoriety in professional or amateur sport as a player, coach, manager, official, owner, writer, broadcaster or any special category determined by the committee. The candidate must be a retired participant of the sport for five years or have passed his 55th birthday. Must have lived in Yonkers for at least 15 years.
The deadline for submitting nomination applications is February 1st.
Established in 1966, the Yonkers Sports Hall of Fame was established to honor residents for their gaming ability, integrity, character, athleticism, and advocacy for the sport.
The names of the selected people will appear on plaques from the Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation at 285 Nepperhan Ave.
