Yonkers police have identified the woman who was fatally stabbed last week in the city as Denise Smith, 60, of Yonkers.
The city and police department offered condolences to Smith’s family on Tuesday. Her alleged attacker, James Hilliard, was charged with second-degree murder and is sitting in Westchester County Correctional Facility.
Hilliard and Smith knew each other and got into a heated argument that eventually led to Hilliard stabbing her multiple times in the torso and neck, police said. Hilliard was taken into custody outside an apartment on Beaumont Circle on Jan. 13 following the incident, police said.
